Keeping Fondant Soft

Q: “…my fondant gets very dry and hard after a few days even though I use shortening and wrap it multiple times in a closed container. Fondant gets soft and works wonderfully when I microwave it, but my question is… will it stay soft after I create the cookie and heat seal it?
